Acne

Acne is a chronic skin condition that affects both teenagers and adults alike. Improper care of acne can lead to deeper skin infections, permanent scarring, and emotional distress.

What is Acne?

Sebaceous glands produce oil (sebum), which combines with dead skin cells and creates a plug in the pore. When bacteria gets trapped underneath the plug, the pore becomes inflamed and a pimple is formed.

What Causes Acne?

Sebaceous glands become more active during periods of elevated hormone activity. Other triggers of acne include improper skin care, food allergies and sensitivities, and vitamin imbalance. Acne can also be aggravated by climate, particularly heat and humidity (which promote bacterial development), irritants in personal care products, and also stress.

How to Cure Acne?

There is no way to cure acne by conventional medicines. The only means to help your skin become acne free and stay acne free is to follow an acne skin care regimen that works for your skin type. There have been many acne myths that have stated if you eat chocolate you will develop acne, if you have poor hygiene or if your diet is filled with greasy foods. Truth be told, if you follow a strict regimen your acne treatment care can be extremely effective.

How Can I Prevent Acne?

The best means to prevent acne is to maintain a proper skin care regimen that includes regular use of masks and exfoliants. Masks are essential to clean pores while exfoliants will slough off dead skin cells resting on skin’s surface. Use products that will effectively control oil production, while maintaining a healthy level of hydration. Be careful to not over-dry the surface, as this can promote further acne.

How to Treat Acne?

In order to effectively treat acne, one must first identify the nature of the blemish before applying a treatment. There are three typical types of acne: whiteheads, cystic pimples, and breakouts.

Whiteheads

Whiteheads are pores clogged with oil (sebum). These blemishes appear raised on the surface of the skin and seem to have a “white” head. Because the whitehead is already raised above the skin, using a powerful topical drying agent, such as the Drying Lotion, is a fast and effective treatment for this kind of blemish. The formulation has drying, disinfecting, and soothing agents that will effectively heal the pimple and minimize chance for re-infection.

Cystic Pimples

When a pimple is red, underneath the surface of the skin, and tender to the touch, a topical drying cream will not effectively heal the blemish, because the infection is deeply embedded under the skin. For these deeper blemishes, the Buffering Lotion is an effective way to expedite the healing process. A light, liquid antiseptic solution absorbs into the skin’s surface to attack the root of the infection under the skin. By avoiding unnecessary topical drying, scarring is minimalized. For more effective healing, apply to affected areas before putting on a mask. Leave on for 20 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water and re-apply Buffering Lotion to area.

1oz. - $17.00

Sporadic Breakouts in Specific Oily Areas

Occasionally, areas of your face can become excessively oily due to over-active sebaceous glands, usually in the forehead and chin area. Due to this over-production of oils, small pimples can form in the area. These pimples are neither whiteheads nor cystic. Often they appear as little bumps under the skin. Our Drying Cream is a gentle topical drying agent that targets these small bumps. Because these bumps appear due to excessive oil production, the Drying Cream absorbs and disinfects the affected areas without being too abrasive to the delicate skin.
